Obituary for William G. Cooper III

William G. Cooper, III, of Warrington, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Doylestown Hospital surrounded by his family. He was 87.

William was the devoted husband of Mary Theresa Cooper. Their marriage spanned almost 66 years and was inspirational to those who loved them.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Margot and William G. Cooper, Jr.

Upon graduating from Lower Moreland High School, William enlisted in the United States Navy serving at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station. Becoming a glazier upon discharge, William was tapped to become the founder of Doylestown Glass Company on behalf of Glenside Glass. He developed it from an abandoned Sunoco station in 1966 and swiftly built it into one of the region's most respected construction organizations. He retired after 45 years on the job.

William and his wife are founding members of Saint Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Warrington. An establisher of the Warrington Athletic Association, with great enthusiasm, he coached his sons to many noteworthy victories in baseball and football. As a proud Archbishop Wood Marching Unit dad, he was a constant presence and the video biographer. Ever the spirited sports fan, he was often on the sidelines cheering fiercely for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His absence will be profound.

In addition to his wife, William will be acutely missed by his children, Mary Eileen Hunsicker (Jeff), William G. Cooper, IV (Barbara), D. James Cooper (Donna), Robert Cooper (Kim); ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; his sisters June Gray and Margot Justice; and beloved family in Ireland.

William’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 11am at Saint Robert Bellarmine church in Warrington. Family will receive friends from 10:00am until 10:45am. Interment will follow at Saint John Neumann cemetery where military honors will be rendered.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in William’s memory may be made to the Monetary of the Holy Cross, 3111 S. Aberdeen St., Chicago, IL 60608.
