Obituary for Verna J. Casteel

Verna June (Leedom) Casteel of Pipersville, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on March 30th at the age of 91. Verna was born on June 4, 1931, in Beth Ayers, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late Harry B. Leedom and Mable V (Snyder) Leedom.

Verna graduated from Lower Moreland High School. She continued her education at Central Radio and Television School of Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating she worked with American Airlines, stationed in Dallas, Texas meeting her husband, Ide Casteel. They were married on April 17th, 1954, and celebrated 50 years of marriage. Settling permanently along the Delaware River in her family’s home, Verna worked closely with her sister Rhea Glenn as an interior decorator. In her later years, she worked at Pleasant Manor, a home for special needs children, which she held close to her heart. She was a charter member of the Point Pleasant Fire Company Ambulance Squad 177 and the Ladies Auxiliary. She also enjoyed volunteering for the Delaware Valley Fire Company participating in their spaghetti dinners. Additionally, Verna was avid member of the Retread Motorcycle Club of Bucks County. Her and her late husband Ide spent much of their retired years traveling together on their beloved motorcycle enjoying the freedom that those rides brought. In Verna’s later years Point Pleasant Baptist Community Church in Point Pleasant Pennsylvania became her spiritual home, finding comfort on Sunday mornings, sitting in the same pew each week. Verna loved relaxing with her cat Eva, who was a constant companion, either watching any Philadelphia sport teams playing on the television or people making their way up and down the Delaware River. She was blessed with a support system of close friends and family who enjoyed her company. Finally, one of her many joys was watching her family grow and expand, attending the weddings, picnics, birthday parties, baby showers, and family get togethers throughout the years. Verna is survived by her loving nephew Robin Glenn and his wife Sue Glenn of Pipersville along with her nieces Rhea Hood of Telford and Rhonda Casteel of Cypress, Texas, granddaughters Kelly Menke and Ashley Fitzhenry of Texas, and grandsons, Christopher and Jason Casteel of Texas.

In addition to her parents and husband, Verna was preceded in death by her brother Harry Leedom and sister Rhea Glenn.

A memorial service to honor Verna’s life and legacy will be held on June 25, 2023, at Point Pleasant Baptist Community Church on 35 River Road in Point Pleasant, PA 18950. The family will greet guests from 3:30-4:30pm with the memorial service to follow.
