Obituary for Paul E. Hand

Dr. Paul A. Hand of Warminster had passed away on Monday February 6, 2023 at the Masonic Home in Warminster. Paul was 92 years old. Paul was the husband of the late Georgette (Cyr) Hand who had passed away in in 2003.

Born in Carmel, MA., Paul was the son of the late Edgar and Irene (Cyr) Hand.
Paul was a 1952 graduate of the University of Maine, having received a bachelor’s of science degree in agricultural economics and farm management. In 1955, Paul had received his Master’s degree in agricultural economics and marketing also from the University of Maine. Following graduation Paul went to work for Penn State University. His work centered on dairy marketing problems. Paul conducted research on the shifting of producers between markets and the cost of receiving and transporting milk within the Philadelphia milkshed. Paul received his Ph.D. from Penn State in 1960.

Paul had gone on to serve in the US Army Infantry for 2 years as a 1st Lieutenant in the Korean War. Paul retired from the US Army Reserves in 1982 having achieved the rank of Colonel.
Paul had an extensive and successful career in the Dairy Industry, having retired from Atlantic Dairy Cooperative in 1993, where he served as general manager and secretary. He remained active in the industry after retirement. Paul had been recognized during his career as an expert on milk marketing and pricing issues. He had served on many industry boards including the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF), the American Dairy Products Institute (ADPI), and the Dairy Council, Inc. He was a leader of the Atlantic Dairy Cooperative, which was a top 10 milk marketing cooperative.

Paul was active in many organizations including; Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture as Treasure, American Management Association, American Agricultural Economics Association, the Kiwanis Club having served as Lt. Governor, the Military Order of Wars, the Reserve Officers’ Association, VFW, American Legion and the Navy League. Paul had been a volunteer at Doylestown Hospital for 18 years and nine months, and had accumulated 6,918 hours of service. He was the Employee of the Month, June 2017.

Paul is survived by his children; Karen, Matejik (late Joseph), Deborah Fisher (Gary), Charlene Wright Joseph), Paul Jr. (former wife Sally) and David Hand (Lawrence Weintraub). Paul was the brother of Judy Cyr, Darlene Miloy, Crystal Friedman, Wayne and Herbert Hand. He was preceded in death by his daughter; Cheryl Gordon (late Andy), his sisters Ina Cyr, Patricia Bogart; and his brothers Gilbert and Orrin Hand. He also is served by his 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandson.
Paul’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on February 11, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Joseph Church 1795 Columbia Ave. in Warrington. Interment will follow in St. John Neumann Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Church from 9:00am until the time of Mass.
