Patricia A. McBrien Rush, of Lower Makefield Twp. and formerly of Doylestown Twp., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, August 7, 2023 at Sunrise of Lower Makefield. She was 80 years old.
Patricia was the loving wife of the late Edward P. Rush, Sr., who passed away in 2019.
Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late James V. and Grace McBrien.
Patricia attended St. Basil's Academy and earned an associate's degree from Pierce College. Following college and until starting a family, Patricia was employed as a medical secretary for an ENT medical practice in Philadelphia. When Patricia's children were of school age, she began working as a Special Education Instructional Assistant for the Bucks County IU and taught in the multiple disabilities support program for 23 years prior to retiring. Alongside her teacher partner of 17 years and beloved friend, Ann Godiksen, Patricia filled her students' days with joy, purpose, compassion and lots of singing and dancing. In 1990, the Bucks County Intermediate Unit presented her with its Outstanding Service Award.
In her free time, Patricia enjoyed doing whatever she could to brighten the lives of others and help wherever it was needed. Her greatest enjoyment in life came from spending time with her large family and many friends in Ocean City, New Jersey. She would do anything for her grandchildren, even riding the log flume at Wonderland. The photo of her petrified face showed what a sacrifice that was!
Patricia will be deeply missed by her children, Bridget Schmidt (Howard), Edward P. Rush Jr. (Kathleen), Brian Rush (Sue), Shawn Rush (Jamee); her 7 grandchildren, Kaitlin, Patrick, Emily, Tara, Elizabeth, Lauren, Charlie; her seven younger siblings, Virgina Minehart (Jeff), Jim McBrien (Sue), Mary Farrington (Joe), Pete McBrien, Colleen Muehleisen (Bill), Terry McBrien (Karl Olschefski), and Beth Puglia (Luigi).
In addition to her husband and parents, Patricia is preceded in death by her parents-in-law, William and Helen Rush, a brother-in-law, William Rush, and a sister-in-law, Joanne McBrien.
Patricia’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 18, 2023 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 235 E. State St., Doylestown, PA 18901. Her family will receive friends from 9:30 AM – 10:15 AM. Words of Remembrance will start promptly at 10:15 AM. Interment will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
