Obituary for Marilyn E. Smith

Marilyn E. Smith, of Warrington, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. She was 66.

Marilyn was the beloved wife of Roy Smith for over 38 years of wedded bliss.

Born in Hartsville, PA, she was the daughter of Robert and Ada Hayne.

Marilyn was a Wine and Spirits sales representative. She was a “worker.” Marilyn worked her way through the ranks of the hospitality industry all over Bucks and Montgomery counties. She spent many years as a server, bartender, and all around hospitality queen.

During the second half of her career she found herself in Wine and Spirits Sales. This was her niche! Watch out if you were in competition with her to fill an order or meet a monthly quota, especially if a trip was on the line, she was fierce.

The sales part of her job seemed secondary to the many friendships and relationships she built with her clients throughout the years. Marilyn made her mark in the industry and her memory will stay alive in the connections she made.

All who knew Marilyn knew her love of animals. She could always tell you about a time when she rescued an animal in distress and nursed it back to health. Over the years the Smith Zoo has included ducks, goats, opossums, cats, birds, turtles, dogs, and any other creatures that were lucky enough to cross her path.

Marilyn loved trips to Ocean City, NJ with her family and friends. You could always find her walking the boards, visiting Mack and Manco’s, shopping on Asbury, and spending time with loved ones in the sun.

Marilyn loved gardening, shopping for the best bargains, hosting parties and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite pastimes of yelling for “Roy,” cheering on the “Iggles,” and feeding the “se-gulls” will never be forgotten. She will be missed by many but her spirit will always remain in our hearts.

In addition to her husband, Roy, Marilyn will be deeply missed by her five children, Cody J. Smith (Erin), Sandra Johnston (Mark), Megan Bancroft (Charles), Jessica Smith (Israel Miranda), Lola Smith; two grandchildren, Lillian, and Fiona; her brother, Jim Hayne (Khrystyna); and her sister, Sandra McGinnis (Joe).

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Shelly Funeral Home, 1460 Easton Road, Warrington. Please follow social distancing guidelines and masks will be required in the funeral home. Please understand that only small groups will be permitted to enter the building at one time. Visitors will be asked to exit the property as soon as able to allow for others to arrive. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marilyn’s memory may be made to the Bucks County SPCA at https://www.bcspca.org/support/donate-online/ or checks may be mailed to Bucks County SPCA, PO Box 277, Lahaska, PA 18931.
