Obituary for John Gebre

John Gebre of Southampton passed away on Sunday January 15, 2023 at St. Mary Medical Center. John was 82 years old. He was the husband of the late Helen Gebre.
Born in 1940, he was the son of Haxhi (Harry) and Freida (Budo) Gebre.

John had graduated from Mastbaum Vocational Technical High School, class of 1957. Following High School; he had proudly served his Country and was honorably discharged from the US Army.

John had been employed as a Lineman with PECO Energy; he had retired after 40 years.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. He was an avid photographer, videographer and enjoyed astronomy. He loved both the mountains and the ocean and spent many summers on the shores of Cape May and winters in upstate Pennsylvania. He loved to use his trail camera to capture wildlife in the woods and telescope to star gaze. He especially loved attending all of his grandchildren's school and sporting events and rarely missed a game. Let's not forget his love for all of the dogs, Russell, Wally, Jessie, and Colt. He could always be counted on to have dog biscuits in his pocket for whatever dog he might encounter that day.

He was involved with Bucktail Hunting Club and Bunker Hill Rod and Gun Club and remembered for his great love of family, especially his 4 grandchildren and his passion for the outdoors. He was also a long time supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

John is survived by his children Michele Overpeck (Earl), John M. Gebre (Marlene), and Eva Gebre. He was the brother of Betty Lacontora (Manny). He also is survived by his grandchildren Sarah, Jessica, Steven and David. John was preceded in death by his sister Dolores Lacontora and brothers Jeffrey and James Gebre.

John’s Funeral Service will be held at 12noon on Wednesday January 25, 2023 at the Shelly Funeral Home 1460 Easton Road. Warrington. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to:
