James Patrick Glemser, of Doylestown, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022 surrounded by his family at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was 75.
Jim was the loving husband of the late Jane Ellen Glemser, who passed away in August of 2014. As teenagers, Jim and Jane fell in love the first night they met. Both attended a party with a different date, but by the end of that party, Jim placed a beer tab on her finger and said he would marry her. After that night, the next 50 years was history. They were together every step of the way from that day forward and the love they had for each other was unmatched and we are happy that they are together again.
Born in Jenkintown, he was the son of the late Herbert Joseph and Margaret Glemser. Jim’s two older brothers Paul and Larry have passed away just in the last two years and he is survived by his younger brother Gregory. The Glemser Brothers were well known in the Abington and Jenkintown area growing up next to Standard Press Steel. They were known for the many good things they did such as serving lunch to the steel workers but also for the trouble they got into, like drag racing down Mascher Street, at Duncannon Ave. but in the end they always loved each other as only brothers could.
James proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a highly decorated veteran with many medals including the Distinguished Service Cross. His stories will never be forgotten, and even though he kept a lot of it private, we are very proud of him and will never forget what he sacrificed for our country.
After the war, Jim married the love of his life and began his family and career. Jim, Jim-Bob or Pop-Pop (as he was known to his grandchildren) will be deeply missed by his children, Gregory Glemser and his wife Morna, his daughter Stacey Glemser and his five grandchildren, Mollie, Ana, Gia, Margo, James. Jim and his older brother Larry, opened a service station in Prospectville near Horsham in the late 60’s and Glemser Bro’s has been a staple on the corner of Horsham Road and Limekiln Pike for over 50 years. He was an amazing auto mechanic that could fix anything that was brought into the shop. At work he was a man of few words who took pride in putting in a hard day’s work. He was still working up until the day before he went into the hospital lifting tires and changing brakes. As the work day came to an end, he went back to his home to spend time with his wife and kids which meant the world to him. The evenings after work are what made him the happiest. He loved doing projects around the house and he always kept himself busy. He would be out in the yard throwing the baseball, a softball, or shooting hoops with the kids as they were always a priority to Jim after work. Then as the evening rolled around he loved to come in, eat dinner with the family and then the priority was his wife Jane. After dinner they would have a couple drinks and sit at the kitchen table to go over the day and talked for hours. For almost 50 years Jim and Jane followed the same routine and I don’t think anything else in the world made them happier.
Jim loved music and played in the Valley Express band for many years playing gigs in the Bucks County area. He loved the nights with his band mates and having a good time with friends, but as his kids became older, Jim and Jane’s home became the home for all the friends of Greg and Stacey. It was the place to meet, hang out and everyone was always welcomed with open arms many times even when Greg and Stacey were not there. From chats with friends by the fire, to poker games breaking out at the kitchen table, to all night games of pool, it was a place to have fun with friends and family and those memories will never fade. Finally we will never forget Jim grabbing the guitar after a couple vodka tonics to play and sing House of the Rising Sun. Love, family, and music tied Jim and Jane together and we can hear them now singing as they are together again. We love you and will miss you but you will never be forgotten.
Funeral services for Jim will be held on Monday, May 23, 2022 at Shelly Funeral Home, 1460 Easton Rd., Warrington, PA 18976. Jim’s family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 12 with a short service starting at 12. Interment will follow at Whitemarsh Memorial Park where military honors will be rendered.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to Doylestown Post 175 VFW 315 North St. Doylestown PA 18901.
