Obituary for Helen Maksymink

Helen Maksymink (nee Nagurny), 96, of Doylestown PA passed peacefully into eternal rest on August 17, 2020.

She was born in Philadelphia, PA to Daniel Nagurny and Mary Nagurny (Nachoney), the sixth of eight children.

Helen graduated from St. Basil Academy, Jenkintown, PA in 1942 and spent several years as a highly skilled secretary, working for an accounting firm in center city Philadelphia. She would often reminisce about her job and how her office on the 23rd floor overlooked the clock beneath the William Penn statue atop City Hall.

Helen married William Maksymink on November 23, 1946. Together they had two daughters, Helen and Nancy. Helen’s passions included tending to her beautiful flower garden, planting and harvesting her annual vegetable garden, cooking and baking her delicious apple pies and preparing her family’s favorite dishes; Ukrainian stuffed cabbage and perogies. She was also very skilled at sewing, making draperies for every window in her house through the years.

Helen was predeceased by her parents Daniel and Mary; husband of 45 years, William; daughter, Helen (Norton); brothers, Steven, Peter and John; sisters, Mary, Anna, Irene and Pauline.

She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Leo) Tysak, son-in-law William Norton, grand children Emily, Timothy, Jared, Brandon and Tara.

Visitation: Monday, August 24, 2020, 9:30 AM at St. Cecilia Church, 535 Rhawn St, Philadelphia, PA.

Funeral Mass: Monday, August 24, 2020, 10:30 AM at St. Cecilia Church

Internment: Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA

Social distancing guidelines and masks will be required. No restrooms will be available at Church.
