Obituary for Helen A. Hennessy

Helen A. Hennessy
Helen A. Hennessy, previously a resident of the Masonic Home, Burlington, NJ and Sicklerville, NJ, passed away on August 15, 2014 at the Neshaminy Manor, Warrington, PA. She was 98.
Helen was the loving wife of the late George “Cal” Hennessy.
Born in Philadelphia, Helen was a daughter of the late Carl Staehle and Martha Goldhahn Staehle.
Following high school, Helen was employed by Westinghouse and in 1964 she became a LPN working at the West Jersey Hospital and the Cherry Hill Hospital.
Helen was an avid bowler and a member of the 200 Club. She also enjoyed playing cards, watching the Phillies, crocheting afghans, and completing crossword puzzles. Helen enjoyed traveling with her husband spending time in Atlantic City, Florida, Las Vegas and Niagara Falls. Helen was an animal lover and enjoyed breeding her Boxer “Duchess”.
Helen had no children of her own; therefore, she was a mother figure to many of her sibling’s children. She was called upon to baby sit for many, if not all of her nieces and nephews at one time or another. Coming form a family with seven children, it kept her and her husband Cal quite busy, sometimes for a few days or even a week. She was sometimes referred to as “Sarge” by her nieces and nephews.
Helen is survived by a brother, Cyril “Bud” Staehle and a loving and devoted niece, Judith Troxell Klem. She is also survived by 19 additional nieces and nephews. She was a great aunt to many, as well as a great great aunt.
Helen was preceded in death by brothers, Carl, George and Albert Staehle, sisters, Martha Obert-Dunkle and Clara Troxell, 2 sister-in-laws, 3 brother-in-laws and 7 nephew-in-laws.
A memorial gathering followed by a luncheon will be held the end of October in Atlantic City. Please contact the family or the funeral home’s website for further information.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Neshaminy Manor, 1660 Easton Rd, Warrington, PA 18976, your local SPCA, or to your local fire company.
