Obituary for Douglas R. Vierath

Douglas R. Vierath, of Niskayuna NY and Doylestown, PA passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 1, 2022. He was 79 years old.

Born in St. Paul, MN, on 12/5/42 he was a son of the late Rudolph Adolph Otto and Sarah Hannah Elvera (Joseph) Vierath.

Doug graduated from the Univ. of Minnesota where he received his Master’s in Electrical Engineering. He worked as a Steam Turbine Engineer for GE in Schenectady for 29 years and then became a home inspector to keep himself busy until choosing to fully retire.

In his free time, Doug enjoyed traveling with his wife to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Puerto Rico... He loved coaching softball, ice skating, snow skiing, water skiing, frisbee golf and had a fascination with bird watching, growing flowers and collecting coins. His annual trips to Martha's Vineyard and the family home on Lake St. Catherine in Vermont were always summer highlights. He talked endlessly with everyone he met, taking a true interest in every person.

Doug was the loving husband of the late Carol Spuck Vierath.

He will be deeply missed by his children, Kathryn Mazzeo (Mario), Marc Micare, Jason Micare, Deana Corrigan (Tom); 7 grandchildren, Matthew, Kyle, Nicholas, Anthony, Miranda, Mariah, and Marius; his brother, Philip Arthur Vierath; and his sisters, Geraldine Ferguson (the late John Ferguson), and Lois Ann Christman (Delmer).

A celebration of his life will be held in the spring in Albany NY where much of his family resides.
