DOROTHY “DOT” P. KINNEY
Dorothy P. Kinney of Buckingham Township peacefully passed away at her home, Friday, December 11, 2020.
Dorothy was born February 19, 1927 at Kensington Hospital in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Harry Myers and Ethel Wilcox Price. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Charles Z. K. Kinney in 2015.
Dorothy (known as Dot by friends) was a lifelong resident of Bucks County. Her early years were spent on her parent’s farm in Carversville until the age of 4, when she and her family moved to Lahaska. Dorothy attended Buckingham Friends School where in the fifth grade she met her future husband, Charles, of 68 years. Dorothy was a graduate of Buckingham High School (class of ’44) where she learned to play the violin, saxophone, and piano. She was also a member of the Buckingham High School girl’s basketball team.
Dorothy and Charles were married February 1, 1947, when Charles returned from military service in WWII. They soon opened a bakery in Newtown, which they owned for two years before moving back to Doylestown. In Doylestown, Dorothy worked in the trust department at Doylestown National Bank. Following her time at Doylestown National Bank Dorothy took a job as bookkeeper for attorney Alan Williams where she worked many years until her retirement in 1989, while raising their two sons, Kevin and Scott.
Dorothy was an active member of the Pleasant Ridge Church of Danboro for 38 years. Together with Charlie they served on many committees, sang in the choir, were youth group leaders, and were most proud of the memorial garden they created at the church. Most recently, Dorothy was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Jamison PA.
Upon retirement, Dorothy and Charles enjoyed traveling; this included a total of 13 cruises as well as road trips with friends and many Hagey bus trips with the Doylestown Senior Center, where Dorothy was a member for 20yrs. Dorothy loved to read, often reading 2 books a week. She also enjoyed counted cross-stitch which she often gave to family and friends.
After Charles’s passing and her failing eyesight Dorothy enjoyed listening to books on tape and doing crossword puzzles. She looked forward to Fridays when she would get her hair done followed by lunch with her friend Carmen. She also looked forward to visits with her dear friend Fern when they would play games and share chocolate.
Dorothy stayed active, she liked going out for ice cream, car rides, playing cards, and
Thursday night dinners at The Oaks Restaurant where she made many friends of the staff and patrons,
Dorothy is survived by her son Kevin and his daughter, Lillian, and her son Scott (Mary Pat) and his children, Valorie (Michael) and Kyle.
A memorial service and internment will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
