Obituary for Dominic A. Vinciguerra

Dominic A. Vinciguerra, of Warwick Township, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. He was 90 years young; days short of celebrating his 91st birthday.
Dominic was the devoted husband of the late Dorothy N. Vinciguerra (Schaffer), who preceded him in death in January of 2019.

Born in South Philadelphia, Dominic was the son of the late Amanzio and Carmella (Pagano) Vinciguerra. He was a proud graduate of Temple University and held a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Dominic also enjoyed playing the banjo for various popular string bands when he was in his late teens and early twenties.

Dominic proudly served his country as a First Lieutenant for the U.S. Army, with tours in Germany and France, where he worked with the US Army Core of Engineers and rebuilt areas that were devastated during World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Dominic married the love of his life, Dorothy. Dominic and Dorothy moved from South Philly to a new home in the Northeast section of the city and raised their three children: Bruce, Mark and Craig. In his professional career, Dominic advanced to the position of Vice President of Marketing Research for various major insurance companies throughout the Philadelphia area. After retirement and being empty nesters, Dominic and Dorothy decided to move to Warwick Township in Bucks County, purchasing a new home directly behind their youngest son, Craig, and his wife, Helen.
Married for 62 years, Dominic adoringly and selflessly cared for his beloved wife Dorothy, in their home for 16 years while she battled Alzheimer’s Disease. In his free time, Dominic enjoyed working on the stock market, playing the lottery, taking car rides, and watching funny movies and game shows—particularly Adam Sandler movies and Family Feud. He especially enjoyed spending time across his extended backyard at Craig and Helen’s house for outdoor BBQs and meals on the patio, as well as other family parties and celebrations at their home.

Despite difficult circumstances that he faced, Dominic always kept a positive mental attitude, “PMA”, as he would say, and encouraged others to do so in their daily lives. He retained his positive mental attitude throughout his final hours.

Dominic will be deeply missed by his three sons: Bruce “Rocky” Vinciguerra (Janice), Mark Vinciguerra (Kathie), Craig Vinciguerra (Helen); his 10 grandchildren: Brian, Anthony, Nicholas, Michael, Eric, Kristen, Mark Ryan, Craig Jr., Cole, Gianna; and 14 great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Dominic was preceded in death by his grandson, Dominic, his brother, Vince Vinciguerra, and his sister-in-law, Ruth “Aunt Dee” Schaffer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Cyril of Jerusalem Catholic Church; 1410 Almshouse Rd., Jamison, PA 18929.
Dominic’s family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM, with Words of Remembrance promptly starting at 10:45 AM. Interment will follow Mass at Washington Crossing National Cemetery where military honors will be rendered.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dominic’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or online at www.alz.org . The Alzheimer’s Association was an organization that was close to Dominic’s heart as his wife, Dorothy, battled the debilitating disease.
