Obituary for Christopher Regan

Chris Regan — who was passionate about family, friends, golf, and home improvement projects — died May 26 at Temple University Medical Center at the age of 70.

Christopher Francis Regan was born in Southington, CT to John and Jean (Dunnigan) Regan on August 20, 1951. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury, CT and attended Syracuse University.

He was Director of Information Technology at Burroughs (now Unisys) for eight years before moving into technology and software sales, where his Irish amiability and keen understanding of the product made him quite successful. It was there, at Burroughs, where he met his wife, Jaylene (Mazeika) Regan. He courted her like a teenager, always planning surprises that kept her on her toes. It was “love at first sight” for both of them. They would have been married 33 years this October.

When Chris Married Jaylene in 1990, he gained two step children into his family. He treated her daughter and son— Courtney Ulmer and Sean Ulmer — as his own.

“Chris always included us in everything, “ Courtney said. “I remember when he asked us if he could marry Mom and included us in the ceremony.” Courtney recalls that Chris went with her to help pick out her courses her first year in college. “He truly was a second father to me and I would always consult him for advice”.

His career also included being Senior Manager at Grant Thornton, Senior Account Executive at Answerthink/Hackett and Regional Director of Sales at mcaConnect, until his retirement in 2017. Throughout his career, his work ethic was boundless, which could sometimes be a source of frustration to family members during their yearly Cape Cod vacations. But, he always would emerge from his “office” for golf outings, happy hour, JT’s ice cream, Whale Watching, crabbing on the Jetty, Cape Cod baseball games, and to walk out on the beach during low tide.

Anyone who knew him also knows that Chris was a bit of a finagler. When he needed his construction sidekick, he would sometimes write doctor's notes to get youngest daughter, Melissa, out of school to help with his construction projects. The greatest project was the massive deck that he added to their Lansdale home, looping in various family members on the endeavor over the years. Now 26, Melissa remains a skilled carpenter, and consulted her Dad pretty much daily on problems large and small and to share good news and her latest challenge.

“Dad was a fixer,” Melissa said. “Even the smallest problems got Dad’s full attention and hours of research. Within a day, he provided multiple solutions, links to his sources and YouTube videos if applicable.”

Chris was a firm believer in working hard for whatever you wanted in life, it did not matter how big or small the goal was. It could be as big as landing a new job, beating the one minute math test, or shaving points off your golf game.

He supported his family in everything they did and was usually the first person they would call for advice or to talk — and Chris could talk. Conversations around the dinner table lasted hours after dinner, into games of Hearts or Rummikub. Chris was a lifelong learner. Chris was always reading and sharing articles on current events, any interesting topics or TedTalks and home improvement projects and loved to share his knowledge with all.

He would spend countless hours on the phone with brother, Michael, discussing his current home improvement undertakings, as both were soulmates in projects and power tools. It doesn’t feel right that the phone doesn’t ring anymore, just as Jaylene bemoans that the house “will be so quiet without him”.

Chris’s exuberance, optimism and wit will be missed by all.

Chris is preceded in death by his parents John & Jean Regan, sister Patricia Regan and niece Natalya Regan.

Chris is survived by his spouse Jaylene Regan, daughter Melissa Regan and her fiancé Shane Hoffert, step-daughter Courtney Ulmer and her husband Troy Augusthy and Jaylani Augusthy, step-son Sean Ulmer and his wife Amanda and their children Logan and Declan, brother Michael Regan and his wife Lynne Tuohy Regan and their children Caitlin Baltera and husband Ray Baltera, Maggie Burns and husband Rich Burns, and Nora Regan Engel and her husband Matt Engel and their children — Riley and Will Engel and Roselyn Bruns and his sister Jane Regan, her daughter Caitie Regan and grandniece Natalie.

Services and internment will be held privately.
