BARRERAS, Charles (Charlie), 97, of North Wales, PA on January 21, 2022. He was born in Philadelphia in 1924 and lived much of his life in the City. Charlie quit high school at age 17 to serve our great nation during WW II, enlisting in the US Navy on July 4, 1942. After training, he served aboard ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. On VJ Day, August 15, 1945, he was aboard the USS St. Paul, which fired the last salvos of the war on the home islands of Japan. Upon his discharge later that year, he obtained his GED and entered the workforce. Charlie eventually became employed by the Budd Company - Hunting Park, Philadelphia, where he became a member of UAW Local 757. Charlie moved into the leadership ranks of the Local, serving as Bargaining Chairman for a time and ultimately serving as President of Local 757 for many years until his retirement in the 1990’s. He is survived by his wife, Joan P. (nee Zibell) Barreras; son, Charles J. Barreras (Suzanne); stepsons, Edward C. Meyers (Coleen) and Michael Meyers (Cindy ); six grandchildren – Jon W. Beck (Meaghan), Matthew Beck, Maria Barreras, Adriana Riegner (Jimmy), Stephen Barreras and Jacqueline Barreras; a brother - Joseph Barreras and a sister - Margarita Barreras-Glemser; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his stepson, John M. Beck, and his brother, Robert Barreras. A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:30 AM on Monday, February 7, 2022 at Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Church, 1325 Upper State Road, North Wales, PA https://mmredeemer.org/mass-streaming. Friends and relatives are invited to call 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Internment at the Washington’s Crossing National Cemetery, Washington’s Crossing, PA will follow Mass.
