Obituary for
Rev. Charles Franklin Knappenberger
Rev. Charles F. Knappenberger, a resident of Warrington since 2000, previously of Cheltenham, Philadelphia and Jim Thorpe passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at his residence. He was 85.
Charles was the loving husband of Mary A. Knappenberger.
Born in Mauch Chunk, PA, he was a son of the late Nathan and Mabel Knappenberger.
Charles was proud to have served with the US Army during the Korean War. He was also proud to be a graduate of La Salle College obtaining a degree in accounting in 1977. Charles entered the seminary and became an ordained Lutheran minister at the age of 50 and first served as Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, Montgomeryville and then later at Holy Word Lutheran Church, Prospectville. He also enjoyed acting as Chaplain and treasurer to the ASA Korea.
In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by 3 sons, Jonathan (Victoria), David (Virginia) and Peter (Sandy) and 6 grandchildren, Tyler, Avery, Lucas, Ella, Julia and Owen. Charles was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Calvin, Robert, Richard and Harold.
Charles’ funeral service will be 11:00 am, Thursday, August 23, 2018 at the Shelly Funeral Home, 1460 Easton Road, Warrington where the family will receive friends 6-8:00 pm Wednesday, August 22 and 10:00 am until the time of service on Thursday. Interment will follow in Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
