Obituary for
Joseph Sokol Sr.
Joseph Sokol, Sr, age 86, of Plumsteadville, PA, died Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at his home with family at his side. Joe was a resident of Plumsteadville for 43 years.
Joe was born in Somerton, PA, seventh of ten siblings to the late Mary (Kowalska) and John Sokol, Sr. As a child he moved to Holland, PA.
He graduated from Council Rock High School in Newtown, PA. He then honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952-56. Joe was awarded the National Defense Medal and Good Conduct Medal
In 1954 he met his future bride of 58 years, marrying Esther Mae Peters on April 2, 1955, who passed away in 2014.
Joe was a self-employed builder and farmer. He continued farming his entire life. He enjoyed traveling and antiquing with his wife, tractors, piloting and aircraft, building and restoring farm toys, hunting, auto racing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joe is survived by a son, Joseph, Jr. and wife Linda of Peyton, CO; daughters Esther (Estie) Sokol-Franks and husband William of Plumsteadville, PA, and Rosemary Sokol of Durango, CO; grandchildren Mark W. Sokol and wife Ashley of Plumsteadville, PA, Mandy Sokol-Przybyla of Lansdale, PA, Laura Sokol-Brown and husband James of Wasilla, AK, Jennifer Sokol of Durango, CO and Ryan Sokol of Point Pleasant, PA; great grandchildren Connor Sokol and Robert Przybyla of Plumsteadville, and Trevor and Drake Brown of Wasilla, AK; brother Daniel Sokol and wife Joan of Holland, PA; sister Helen Hemingway of Jefferson, GA; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Sadly, in addition to his wife Esther, Joe was also preceded in death by his son, Mark Sokol, his parents and brothers John Sokol, Jr, Frank Sokol, Edward Sokol and Anthony Sokol and sisters Anna Sokol and Alice Monaghan.
Joe’s Funeral Service will be held on Monday October 2, 2017 at 10:00am at the Shelly Funeral Home Easton and Keller’s Church Road, Plumsteadville. The family will receive friends from 9:00am until the time of service at the Funeral Home. Internment will be held privately.
